Responsible Tourism

Keeping it Real

We’re committed to taking care of everyone and everything that matters to our business in the long run. Naturally, we look after you – our customers, and of course we look after our staff. But we’re also determined to look after the world we all share and the people who live in it.

As you may have heard, we’ve pledged that the next ten years’ profits from Virgin Holidays, Trains and Atlantic, will be invested in developing low carbon products and renewable sources of energy. To enable you to address your own carbon footprint, we have also teamed up with Myclimate and Virgin Atlantic to provide Gold Standard carbon offsets, which both balance the CO2 emissions from your flight and reduce poverty in the developing world.

We also want to ensure the people who live in the countries we travel to, get a fair deal from tourism. We undertake a range of sustainability initiatives worldwide and have also included a donation to the Travel Foundation (of 50p per adult and 25p per child) in every holiday. This charity operates environmental and social projects to help the environment and improve the lives of people in holiday destinations.

In this collection we are proud to include some of the hotels that are leading the way in making luxury sustainable. From the city glitz of URBN in Shanghai, to the tranquil calm of Spice Island, Grenada - strides in sustainable building design and eco innovation are helping save energy and cut waste worldwide. Others like Sundance Utah, and North Island Seychelles are active in preserving the natural beauty that surrounds them, even allowing visitors the opportunity to get involved. While Shompole in Kenya and Ulusaba in South Africa have social initiatives in place to support and involve their local communities.

Happiness and relaxation really don’t need to be complicated. At the mud and salt-built hideaway of Adrere Amellal Eco Lodge in Egypt you can indulge in simplistic luxury. The low tech, candlelit rooms are the ultimate way to escape modern life and recharge your own batteries in eco extravagance!
