    Set high on a hillside with an idyllic view of the Bay of Galle, this former admiral's house is a particularly attractive example of Dutch colonial architecture in the tropics. The effect is at once terribly grand and surprisingly cosy. Various rooms and spaces are used much as they would have been originally, and the guest experiences something not dissimilar to staying with the admiral himself.

    Each of the staterooms is immense and so are the bathrooms. Dutch House also has beautiful gardens, with the recent addition of an infinity pool discreetly tucked away on one side of the estate.

    But Dutch House's real draw-card is the seductive pace of the place; you're left with the impression that all the guests have been here for so long that they have completely adjusted to the Sri Lankan way of life - even if they only arrived yesterday.
