You absolutely must…
Must eat:
The restaurant serves various seasonal world cuisine but Belgian food is rightly revered and you should try the traditional Brussels dishes (for which people book this place out if you forget to reserve). There are also plenty of bars and bistros to sample in this neighbourhood.
Must Shop:
If you are lucky enough to be here on Wednesdays the local Chatelain market is held but everyday you have the one off boutiques and chic shops of Ixelles and Place Brugman on your doorstep. In November or December you’ll definitely head to the Grand Place Christmas markets.
• Stylish yet homely, truly boutique (8 rooms) hotel in a former art deco townhouse
• Modern monochrome makes for seductive rooms and romantic dining in the very fine restaurant
• Upmarket shopping and local bistros are on the doorstep in the Chatelain quarter
The Whole Story
Located in Brussel’s Chatelain quarter, Odette en Ville is the ‘in town’ partner to the Odette hotel (a former café) in the village of Williers just over the border in France. Odette herself presides over guests checking in (as a life size portrait) which is appropriate as the hotel nurtures traditional hospitality and a home from home feel despite its Monochrome modernity.
It’s not the just name that has been imported from the country residence, French style, French wines and even homemade jams have travelled to this city dwelling, Art Deco townhouse.
A former residence it has transformed its reception rooms into a fine restaurant, popular with locals and guests alike and a bar and sitting room with Marcel Wanders designed tables and a large chesterfield for you to park in for a drink and a pastry (snacks always available). The restaurant has a terrace for fine days and all these cosy rooms have real fires burning in the marble surrounds in winter.
The hotel’s colour scheme is predominantly black, with white (and the odd lilac candle or white fur throw). Even the lounge TV plays black and white silent movies. The black wrought iron staircase leads up to 8 individual guest rooms that have been designed for the romantic in you. The lighting and décor is dark and sexy. With gas fires and huge white marble tubs replacing the quick shower, you are drawn to spend some time in your room (something you sometimes forget to do on a city break). Perfect for recharging after a day of Christmas markets or cathedral viewing before you head downstairs for dinner.
The Rooms
8 elegant and stylish rooms have a dark, seductive feel with large white marble bathrooms. Each room is unique and fitted according to its location and aspect within the house. Therefore the size, shape and special touches vary in every room.
However they have been simply divided into 4 price categories to suit all budgets.
As your city home from home you can make use of the book and DVD library with players in every room.
Children are welcome and one child can be accommodated in the parent’s room free of charge (rollaways and cots available on request and there is a toy library). You can also bring your pooch if it’s reasonably small, ask for details.
