The Whole Story
Located just down the beach from Heron Bay and Sandy Lane – the institutions that kickstarted Barbadian tourism – The House is the beachside version of a hip downtown hotel. The House is the venue for an extremely laid-back ritual that alternates between eating in the bar, swimming, sitting in the sun, drinking in the bar, swimming, sitting in the sun...until it gets dark, when the city gene reasserts itself and these chilled-out, suntanned, dressed-down urbanites revert to their primal role of restaurant stalkers. For this The House itself may be one of the best hunting grounds on the island, because the most acclaimed addition to the Barbados restaurant scene is Daphne's. Located bang on the beach, this satellite of the famous London restaurant is regarded by many as better than the original.
On a design front its combination of smooth lines of teak, curved lanterns and modern lighting to set the mood, is suitably exotic. Yet it's a beautifully intimate place with plenty of privacy for romantic dining. Back at the hotel, it's interesting to note that the proprietors chose the name to suggest the ambience of renting a villa as opposed to staying in a hotel. They have a point. There are no brass buttons or reception desk in sight.
The Rooms
The House boasts 34 junior and 1-Bedroom suites spread over 3 floors, each providing modern simplicity and comfort framed by scenic ocean or romantic garden views.
Ocean View Junior Suites - with comfortable living areas, these suites have a balcony or a patio with full views of the ocean.
Garden View 1-Bedroom Suites - with separate bedroom, living area and two bathrooms as well as lovely views of the gardens.
