The Whole Story
It’s not a surprise to discover that Laluna is the vision of an intrepid Italian; they seem to have a knack for places like this.
I had mentioned to the manager that Laluna reminded me of Hotelito Desconocido in Mexico, and I proceeded to tell him the story of the Italian owner who hacked his way through the jungle with a machete to discover the magical location that would eventually become the hotel. Sounds like “Bernardo Bertucci”, he responded, and then proceeded to tell me a similar story about the proprietor of Laluna. Bernardo arrived here just over 10 years ago, and fell in love with the island, and the fact that it was not as commercial or touristic as other Caribbean islands. He proceeded to hack his way through some jungle to get to a small bay that is today’s location of Laluna.
This hotel is the ‘outsider’ on Grenada. It’s far more colourful and ethnic than any of the other islands’ hotels. The owner decided to ignore the pervasive taste for colonial neo-plantation classicism and focus instead on a décor and design much more in tune with the surrounding jungle. Laluna is for people who are not afraid of being isolated; who embrace the chance to escape to a bungalow disguised by the verdant green of a tropical island, just above a beach that is hidden away for all but the guests of the property.
This is a place where you forget time and routine and protocol, and focus instead on the natural beauty of these volcanic Caribbean islands.
The Rooms
The 16 one and two bedroom private guest cottages are designed in an open-style plan to take advantage of the view. Generously sized and tastefully appointed bedroom, featuring king-sized beds, that open onto an expansive veranda with a private plunge pool, framed in natural cotton fabric that serves as an indoor/outdoor living room.
The Cottage Suites are semi detached and are situated at the highest level on the hillside.
The Deluxe Cottages are free standing, and located above the beach on the hillside approx 50 - 80 feet from the beach
The Beach Front Deluxe Cottages are located directly on the beach only 40 feet from the waters edge and have their own private lawn.
