The Whole Story
The W Mexico City has taken the influences of legendary Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo and dragged them, kicking and screaming, into the twenty-first Century. Rivera’s fondness for monumental murals have been given a comic book twist and the colours of the Mexican arts and crafts tradition as promoted by Frida Khalo have been used with abandon, to the point where the entire hotel is literally awash in saturated colour.
Situated off Reforma Boulevard in the trendy Polanco neighbourhood of Mexico City, The W is surrounded by shops, galleries, bars and restaurants.
The first word that comes to mind when you look at these distinct guest suites is RED, cherry RED… very RED. It’s an unapologetic and successful nod to Mexico’s cultural heritage and it’s a very bold and exciting way to make a hotel room different for a reason. A particularly nice touch is the hammock suspended in the bathroom. The exuberant sense of colour goes into overdrive in the ‘marvellous’ suite, where purple and green join the red party.
