The Whole Story

A break from both the rat race and from tradition; this is not your usual Caribbean retreat. Clean contemporary style mixes it with the historical pedigree of a former sugar plantation.

Montpelier Plantation & Beach is a new type of Caribbean destination – a sophisticated, rather sizeable sanctuary of more than sixty acres with just nineteen rooms, that is entirely devoted to a modern sense of laid back hedonism.

Dominated by Nevis Peak, the ravines and steep slopes of this volcanic island continue to impress. Montpelier Plantation & Beach is situated high in the hills of this Caribbean gem, but in keeping with its dedication to the luxury of choice it also has a private beach.

This being a Relais & Chateaux property, food and drink are taken very seriously indeed. The Montpelier Plantation & Beach grows a lot of its own food in kitchen gardens that thrive on the volcanic soil, and fresh market produce is brought in daily. Dinner is served al fresco on a terrace overlooking the lights of St Kitts and Nevis, or you can opt for the intimate candle lit experience of dining in the 300 year old sugar mill – the only restaurant of its kind in the world.

As for the rooms, a chic, pared down approach is applied to colonial ‘bones’. Bathrooms are big and cutting edge and the rooms, thanks to their heritage, have high ceilings, hard wood floors and big windows open to the Trade Winds. Unconventionally, you will not find a TV in the rooms or an iPod docking station, or any usually ubiquitous entertainment technology. The idea is to slow down... in style.

The Rooms

All the Rooms and Suites are designed with a light touch and
sense of intimacy. Where possible the best use of open spaces
has been made so you move effortlessly between the indoors and
outdoors. And get maximum benefit from the cooling trade winds.

Premier Rooms -offer views of the sea and the tropical landscape. The furniture is a blend of traditional and tropical themes and each room boasts a private veranda to capture the breeze.

Plantation Rooms- are simple and elegant following colonial traditions but incorporating modern amenities.

Garden Suite- is a spacious, split-level room consisting of an open bedroom and sitting room. Enjoy a large walk in rain fall shower and wide jalousie windows that allow the air to flow through the room providing a natural cooling breeze. The added touch of the Garden Suite is a private gazebo with an over sized couch and pillows.

Villa Suite-with 2 ensuite bedrooms and set on the edge of the property and tastefully decorated in plantation style. Glass doors open onto two covered porches, a sun deck and plunge pool.
NB For those who find it difficult to adjust to the slower pace of island life the suite is fully equipped with modern technology-ie TV and Music systems!
