The Whole Story
Marigot Bay has been playing host to foreign visitors for more than three centuries. The bay, described by novelist James Michener as “the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean”, was once a favourite haunt of pirates. Facing west, it provided shelter from storms and it was also the setting for a famous sea battle between the navies of France and Britain.
In the 1950s a captain of a schooner sailed into Marigot Bay on Doubloon and decided never to leave; opening the first hotel which included the recently restored Hurricane Hole.
Today, this is the setting for the Marigot Bay Hotel, a 30 acre eco-friendly luxury retreat in a stunning and historical Caribbean location. Opened in November 2006, it is a stylishly chic collection of 56 suites and 66 rooms, many with their own private pool.
The famous marina at Marigot Bay is just next door, and the hotel makes a splendid base for discovering the island or indeed the bay itself. With lively local restaurants and bars, Marigot Bay has become a well-known holiday destination; the perfect place if you are the type that does not like being locked away in an isolated retreat.
There is certainly always something to see. The marina at Marigot Bay accommodates some of the world’s most impressive mega yachts, and it consistently ranks as one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive yachting destinations.
Apart from the bay itself, there are also St. Lucia’s lush rainforest and mountain peaks to explore, taking advantage of an island that is very well equipped in terms of transport and infrastructure.
