Behind every myth is at least a grain of truth — this is a comforting thought for anyone searching for James Hilton's evasive Shangri-La. In Hilton’s acclaimed novel ‘Lost Horizon’, he describes the peace and great beauty of a distant and secluded hideaway – a paradise on earth hidden in a Tibetan valley of snow-capped mountains. A myth … or perhaps something you will recognise in your surroundings in Ringha. The setting is certainly spectacular, with endless valleys, deep canyons, raging rivers, tranquil lakes and snowy-mountain tops - the words awe-inspiring are much used, but seldom more appropriate than when describing Ringha. Each season has its own charm: the colours of spring with rhododendrons and azaleas in full flower; the fresh green leaves and meadows of summer; the forests creating a canvas of flaming red and orange in autumn; and the white serene setting of winter.

At an altitude of 3,200 metres, Banyan Tree Ringha is the part of Tibet known, appropriately enough, as Shangri La.
Ringha is an extraordinary story which started with the purchase of 20 old traditional Tibetan farmhouses and the subsequent deconstruction of each house supervised by the former owners, and the reconstruction of the same houses on an idyllic site by a river that snakes through a verdant mountainscape.
With a very large fireplace and a view of the surrounding wooded mountains, the bar is the perfect place to kick back after a day of trekking – very, very ‘A River Runs Through It’
Not a room, a house. Every guest gets their own Tibetan farmhouse – a funky Himalayan loft with a fireplace in the middle.
