The Whole Story
Definitely the most cutting edge property to be added to the Shanghai hotel scene, JIA gives the city street cred in terms of overnight accommodation that it already has in spades in the art world. JIA offers contemporary China chic in one of the World’s most cosmopolitan cities.
Every few weeks the city of Shanghai adds not just a few new buildings but an entire neighbourhood. It is a mega city with almost no parallel. The constant change and constant growth makes it one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the World. Just don’t expect every taxi to know where they are going!
This is the sister hotel of JIA Hong Kong, one of the first cutting edge hotels in China’s link to the Western World. With JIA Shanghai however, the owner Yenn Wong and group director Barry Polson have raised the bar to another level. The design is much hipper and the rooms are much bigger. André Fu of AFSO and Darryl Goveas of Pure Creative International were brought in to design the lobby and the restaurant and Aussie-based design group BURO Architects were responsible for the rooms.
More like lofts than rooms, each guest apartment features a proper living area complete with slouch couch and dining table, and the bathrooms are havens of mosaic chic.
A dark sexy affair, the bar is on the ground floor just off the lobby, a cocktail joint in the new spirit of Shanghai
The Rooms
JIA has 55 guestrooms, with signature furniture pieces with true designer ‘pedigree’, timber-panelled walls and over-scaled custom-designed floor rugs which add a contrast to the dark timber floors. Each room also has unique photographic pieces by Singaporean photographer Russell Wong.
