The Whole Story
What still sets London apart from world cities is its vibrant theatre scene. In this respect, One Aldwych could not be better located. Most major venues, including the South Bank Centre, Shakespeare's Globe and the Royal Opera House, are within walking distance.
This classically elegant triangular building is one of the most important Edwardian buildings in London - designed by the same architects that were responsible for the Paris Ritz. The same care has been taken in creating the guest experience at One Aldwych.
Rooms are modern, but not in a way that would date, and comfortable in a way that would suit even the most demanding guests. There is music in the pool, television while you shave, an in-house cinema for private screenings, fibre-optic lighting, politically correct vacuum plumbing that uses 75 per cent less water than conventional systems: It is a unique hotel by considering details beyond the conventional, including the glamorous Bugatti-blue mosaic-tiled pool. As well as the mezzanine restaurant Indigo, there is also the more formal dining option of Axis, a dramatic double-height space with a 1920s feel. It is dominated by a massive mural by the English artist Richard Walker and accessed by a spectacular flight of travertine stairs.
The Rooms
All 105 rooms are luxuriously appointed with exceptional attention to detail. Every guest enjoys free Wi-Fi and broadband, iPod docks, fibre optics, original art, Frette linens, 100% natural bath products, Bang and Olufsen TVs, digital on demand and TV in the bathroom. These come as standard (if anything about One Aldwych is standard).
Aldwych rooms are approximately 26 sq m and have King or Twin beds with bathtubs.
Executive rooms are similar in size with separate showers.
Deluxe rooms are larger, approximately 36 sq m.
The round Signature Studio Suites are at the apex of the hotel, with sitting areas and large windows enjoying views over Waterloo Bridge.
