The Whole Story
The interior of Le A is evidence of decorator Frédéric Méchiche's newfound taste for modernism. His confident signature has given a small rustic hotel a bold, unique signature. He has an enduring ability to make small spaces seem immense and his soft kind of minimalism is welcoming, cosy even, without sacrificing the edge of all the white interior. At Le A the art and the design are on a par. Méchiche worked closely with the artist Fabrice Hyber and every space, from the lounge areas to the guest rooms and even the hallway on the ground floor, has been transformed into an installation.
The Restaurant is actually within the orangerie (or Parisian conservatory); this is a breath of fresh air - like eating in an artist's atelier. And for once breakfast in the hotel is not a dark, cramped affair.
The 8th is without question Paris's chichi shopping neighbourhood, with an almost limitless appetite for luxury, and that brand of luxury that the French are such masters at: subtle, discreet, using only the best materials. The boutiques of Avenue Montaigne are a short stroll away, as is the flagship store of Louis Vuitton. But all these shoppers also need places to eat and drink, and so, not surprisingly, the area boasts more Michelin star establishments than any other quartier of Paris.
