The Whole Story
Marrakech is a dream; one of the few truly exotic places left on the planet, but much as I love the city and its mad, medieval Medina, I prefer to stay in the Palmeraie – the vast and wild palm grove that stands between the city and the Atlas Mountains. The Palmeraie is beautiful and exotic, and it is quiet. Pin-drop quiet. No traffic, no background noise, not even the faint din of calling to prayer. This beauty and the quiet are amplified in a place like Jnane Tamsna. It is not a hotel, it is a fabulous collection of villas set in the splendour of one of the most beautiful gardens on southern Morocco. Even better, the interiors are as inspiring as the gardens. Both are a result of the proprietors. He is an acclaimed botanist, she is a renowned decorator and designer.
Jnane Tamsna is an oasis in the true sense. A retreat defined by extraordinary beauty and exquisite good taste. It is the perfect contrast or counterpart to the heady, noisy madness of the Marrakech Medina.
The Rooms
The Main House
Here there are a combination of garden suites and large and standard rooms. The architecture is that of a Marrakech Riad (Courtyard House) with 10 spacious rooms on two levels and 2 more in an annex. There are two courtyards, extensive gardens, two large pools and many alcoves to explore.
Moussafir
5 garden suites inspired by Islamic art and design have bathrooms with fireplace, bath tub and separate shower. All have private verandahs overlooking the garden and access to a roof terrace.
Salmia
Set in private Mediterranean gardens with elegant pool, 5 large rooms are the newest addition with open fireplace in each. The villa has a dining room, breakfast room, library, fireplace and verandah downstairs.
A separate pavilion has 2 garden suites (ideal for a family) with sitting room, outdoor dining and private pool.
