The Whole Story
Not everyone who flies to Cape Town wants to stay in an urban environment. Particularly when you’ve stepped onto a flight in the cold, grey depths of a European winter and you emerge into the seductive warmth of a South African summer. Some of us would much rather head straight for the ocean. That, in a nutshell, is the big attraction of Ellerman House. The shaded verandas and tiered gardens of this Edwardian mansion overlook the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island from a commanding position above Cape Town’s Bantry Bay.
It's not surprising that this Relais & Chateaux property is so popular with honeymoon couples. Large balconies, sea views and the levels of personal hedonism that Relais & Chateaux usually guarantee make this elegant, historic mansion one of the most romantic hideaways in Cape Town. Apart from the architecture and the location, there is also the art collection. The owners of this property have, for the past ten years, embarked on a mission of collecting work of unquestionable quality. The original idea was to focus on Cape paintings, but the collection has progressed from that and now comprises an intriguing overview of South African art of the past 100 years.
The Rooms
Room types vary from those at the back of the House to those with sea views, some with balcony. The Ellerman Suite has been converted from Lady Ellerman’s art studio and has a balcony and sea views. All are elegantly furnished.
The stunning contemporary 3 bedroom villa enjoys a master bedroom with a bathroom that open out over the sea.
