The Whole Story
A luxurious
complex of elegantly spacious villas, AKA is the kind of place you’re
not likely to want to leave, which is exactly what was intended. Situated
high in the hills behind Hua Hin, the beachside residence of the Thai
royal family, it is hard to believe that this splendidly isolated resort is less than four hours from the pulsating metropolis of Bangkok. The property was inspired by an ancient hill tribe known as the AKA who originated in the Tibetan Highlands and Yunnan in China. Over
the years they have migrated to various countries including Northern
Thailand and are a deeply spiritual people, with a desire for
simplicity and continuity pervading their daily lives. Inspired
by the AKA philosophy and their love of nature, the AKA Resort was
designed to offers guests an oasis in which to relax and revitalise. AKA
Hua Hin is the first of many new generation hideaways created by James
Ngal, a Hong Kong based entrepreneur who decided to branch out from
fashion into real estate. His modus operandi may very well be the future of escape destinations: guest villas, not rooms, and the facilities make many other hotels positively pale by comparison. Okay,
it’s true, you’re nowhere near the beach, but by the time you’ve used
the spa and your villa’s own swimming pool, and indulged in the excellent French/Thai cuisine of the restaurant, you will have forgotten all about it. A
two bedroom, two bathroom villa with a roof terrace, a water garden and
an emerald green swimming pool is AKA’s version of a room. The main pool is 35 metres in length, and dominates the view from the restaurant – the type of pool that would make real swimmers very happy. The bar is where you want it to be; there are areas all over the resort where you can meet for a drink – the choice vis-à-vis location is up to the individual guest.
