Soneva Kiri leaves behind all established notions of a hotel. It is a private nature park surrounded by untouched deserted beaches with stunning contemporary guest bungalows, linked by miles of private roads and acres of swaying palms situated on the tip of Thailand’s second largest island that to this day remains largely uninhabited. Soneva Kiri is the first example of a private world created with only one purpose - the hedonistic pleasure of its guests. There is a massive spa complex that snakes its way through a mangrove, a fleet of boats available for diving, snorkelling, exploring and excursions, a state of the art gym in a tree house overlooking the sea and the list goes on.
The choice in culinary experiences on offer is extreme. The most radical is ‘dining pod’ - an organic, nut shaped, capsule that gets hoisted with dining guests on board into the canopy of the tropical forest where you are served by a waiter on a flying fox. There is also Kun Benz, an authentic Thai restaurant in a rustic shack on stilts in the very thick of a proper mangrove. On the other side of the island there is an observatory with a telescope and a gourmet ham and cheese room underneath. Next door is a futuristic sushi bar constructed entirely of overlapping slabs of green glass and next door is a terracotta hut that houses a traditional tandoori oven. Near South Beach there is the cliff side tasting restaurant with its outdoor dining decks.
Guest villas at Soneva Kiri have redefined the idea of private self-standing accommodation. A more accurate way to describe them would be ‘guest compounds.’ Locations vary from beachside to Cliffside to hilltop. Each guest compound includes a personal pool, which wraps around the bungalow, a sleeping pavilion, a bathroom pavilion and an open air living pavilion sheltered by either a thatched roof or a high tech tented structure
