The organic architecture is as adventurous as the location. You approach along a private small mountain road that winds its way through dense forest. A series of Tree House and Ocean House rooms gaze across to the mountains or vast expanse of sea and sky.
The Tree House rooms are suspended on timber stilts, a mélange of triangular shapes creating an interior unlike any other. The ocean house rooms are similarly innovative, virtually buried in the side of the steep slope from which they look out, with roofs covered in topsoil and planted. Fusion of glass, stone, slate and native woods reflects a lifelong commitment to environmentally appropriate design.
Extraordinary location, extraordinary architecture – but even these are not the only drawing cards of Post Ranch Inn. Because many guests come first and foremost for the food at Sierra Mar with its world class New California cuisine.
The rooms
The 39 guest rooms at Post Ranch are similar in size but each room has a unique design with either an ocean or mountain view. A selection of rooms is outlined below, but please enquire for other options. A complimentary pantry with non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, fresh fruit all replenished daily, Welcome 1/2 bottle of wine and white wine. Complimentary Wi-fi throughout the resort. Each room has a king-size bed, wood-burning fireplace, indoor or outdoor spa tub, private deck, stereo, coffee & tea facilities, complimentary pantry with non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, fresh fruit all replenished daily, Welcome half bottle of red and white wine. Complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the resort. Amenities include robes, slippers, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and walking sticks. There are no televisions or alarm clocks in the guestrooms and all rooms are non-smoking. A complimentary breakfast buffet in the award-winning Sierra Mar Restaurant is included.
Butterfly House rooms - The six-room building is shaped like a butterfly with three floors included under each wing, one room on each floor. Each room has a view of the trees and the mountains from private decks.
Tree House rooms - These single standing structures are built nine feet off the ground on stilts with a stairway to each entrance. Triangular in shape, each room has a bed in the centre with a window seat, desk and fireplace in the corner. They all accommodate only two people. All Tree Houses are on the inland side with views of the trees and mountains from the windows and terrace.
Ocean House rooms - These single standing ocean front structures and have a curved, beamed roof covered with a carpet of grass and wildflowers. There are ocean views from the bed, bath, window seat and terrace. If requested, the window seat may be made into a twin bed.
Coast House rooms - Circular in design to resemble the nearby redwood trees, these two-story duplexes have separate entrances and a seating area in front of the fireplace. Partial or full ocean views may be seen from the bed, couch, tub and terrace.

Although you are surrounded by State Parks, make sure you have a day to just enjoy the views from Post Ranch. Soak in the infinity pool 1,200ft up, looking for breaching whales in the endless blue or kick back on your terrace with your complimentary wine - the sea or mountain vistas are all awesome.
