• Exclusive, private ambience of an upper east side pied-a-tierre
• Elegant, refined accommodations with original artwork adorning the lobby

• Café Carlyle is the epitome of a chic NY cabaret
The Whole Story
The Carlyle's continuing ability to stay completely true to itself, irrespective of fashion or trend, has made it one of New York's most genuine and charismatic experiences. Woody Allen can often be found jamming on his clarinet with the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band in the Café Carlyle (resident cabaret jazz / venue) on a Monday night. On the design front, the hotel had not touched the original scheme by legendary pre-war decorator Dorothy Draper until recently.
Perhaps the most convincing quality of The Carlyle is how in sync it is with the area. The Carlyle is the Upper East Side, and vice versa. All the values of patrician New York are the qualities that define The Carlyle. This doesn't make it everyone's cup of tea, but then the hotel is not trying to be. People who are not fans of the Upper East Side might describe it as boring, but how can a neighbourhood that has a world class museum on practically every other corner, not to mention the proximity of Central Park, possibly be boring?
The Upper East Side is interesting precisely because it's not like the rest of New York. The doormen with their traditional brass-buttoned coats and caps, school children in blazers and ties, discreet little restaurants tucked into the brownstones on gentrified side streets, and, of course, the shopping, all give this part of New York a signature as distinctive as the tenement housing of the Lower East Side. The Carlyle has featured in countless films set in Manhattan, and its pervasive sense of refinement continues to be a magnet
