“The sign on Interstate 15 to Salt Lake City pointed to Sundance. I took the turn-off and immediately started to worry. If Sundance was signposted so prominently perhaps it wasn't the perfectly preserved little mountain hideaway I had hoped for. Less than forty minutes later, my fears were put to rest. Here was a mountain road that looked like a mountain road. If the road isn't compromised, I thought, then the place itself probably isn't either. I was right.” Located on the slopes of the breathtaking 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos, Sundance is as authentic as the road that leads there. It all started over thirty years ago, when Robert Redford was looking for a place to live and raise his children. It was known as Timphaven then, a small ski resort tucked away in the folds of Utah's spectacular Wasatch Mountains. He feared it was only a matter of time before property developers stepped in and ruined the place. So he made a trip to New York and managed to secure enough investors to buy the entire valley. That way he could ensure that Sundance, as he renamed it, would stay just as it was.
