Vietnam has preserved many more traditions than other Asian nations. Shop for an ao dai (pronounced ‘oww yaii’), the traditional Vietnamese dress with the slit along the legs.
Must Visit
Venture to the outskirts of the city, rent a boat and check out the real Vietnam by making your way down the Me Kong River.
• Luxury, style and resort facilities in the heart of Vietnam’s most important city.
• Many key attractions within walking distance and easy day trips to many others.
• A colonial style oasis from the heat and excitement of the city.
The Whole Story
Despite the fact that the north won the war, the most influential and important city in Vietnam, certainly from a business point of view, is Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon.
Situated in the centre of the city, at Lam Son Square, the nine storey French colonial-inspired Park Hyatt Saigon overlooks the Opera House and is within walking distance of the city’s main attractions. The Reunification Palace with its underground bunkers from the American War and China Town are two must sees.
All the rooms are styled in a colonial manner, with dark polished wood floors and white marble bathrooms. The Park Lounge, with its dramatic floor-to-ceiling wooden shutters, is the perfect venue for a downtown rendezvous; whether it be for afternoon tea or evening cocktails or a late-night glass of wine. Dining choices are Opera, an Italian trattoria on the lobby level complete with its own wood-fired pizza oven and Square One, an atmospheric restaurant on the mezzanine level that features authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Xuan Spa is a 16,514 square foot facility that offers seven treatment rooms, a 20 metre outdoor tropical pool and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.
The Rooms
Park rooms are 34 sq m with a wood floor, LCD TVs, marble bath, walk-in rain shower, 1 King bed or 2 Twin beds with city or pool views. The best rooms are the Park Deluxe King Rooms which each have a private terrace with direct access to the pool.
