The Whole Story
Vietnam’s coast is the country’s as yet undiscovered pearl. Compared to Thailand, the Philippines or Malaysia, Vietnam is virtually undeveloped – it has only one beach resort of international standing: Nha Trang. It’s certainly not deserted, but neither is it spoilt. A five-mile-long expanse of immaculate sand, it puts the likes of Miami to shame. The only hotel currently on the sand is Evason Ana Mandara, justifiably billed right now as one of the best hotels in Vietnam. Yet even from the road running along the beach you’d never even know it was there because its colonial Franco-Viet-style villas disappear among the foliage of the densely planted palm trees.
Guests at Evason Ana Mandara are spread out over the fifty-odd-acre complex, where they can choose between two restaurants, the six senses spa, several bars and the swimming pool, not to mention the beach. Design-wise the place has a distinct Vietnamese signature: a blend of Chinese motifs, French colonial detailing and Vietnamese artisanal traditional tradition. Dining rooms at opposite ends of the beach contribute to the impression that Evason Ana Mandara is never too crowded and the guest bungalows feature a lofty ceiling height and Chinese-inspired furniture.
The chef, for instance, takes guests along for his morning shopping at local markets at 5am. Or you can visit rice fields where the ritual of harvest has been unchanged for centuries
